What's your main instrument?
Clarinet. My goal has always been to perform in an American orchestra, and the voice of the clarinet draws me into the orchestral world.
What's your musical origin story? What lit the spark for you?
I had an amazing middle school band director who made music class the best part of my day. So I started practicing and haven't really stopped since. His name was Mr. Pastor, and I will honestly never forget him.
Can you share a good gig story?
I got to play a gig with an ABBA impersonation band. I remember thinking, 'Who thinks they can impersonate ABBA?' Then all the singers showed up and blew me away. At the concert, everyone from small children to fully grown adults were dancing and having the time of their life. I've never looked out into the audience more than at that gig.
Tell us about your practice routine and share some practice tips.
I start every morning with a 10 minute warm up. That way, no matter what happens in my day, I at least have that warm up to rely on. I think it's extremely important to practice something slow and musical on a daily basis. People get worried about fast notes. I try not to be distracted by fast notes and practice instead on creating a musical voice, a memorable moment.
What drew you to the Music House team?
Everyone who works here really does care about the students and the music. It's a genuine place filled with good people. I'm not sure you can ask for more when looking for a job that leaves you fulfilled at the end of the day.
