In just six years Indika Gunananda has gone from absolute beginner to experienced, performing musician.
We're sad to be losing Indika after all these years, but we're also very excited for him. He's off to study computer engineering and music this fall at KU!
Here's what Indika had to say when we interviewed him.
What instruments do you play?
I play the piano, bass drums.
How long have you been playing music?
About six years.
What are your plans for after graduating high school? If you're going to college, do you know what you'll be studying?
I’ll be studying computer engineering and minoring in music at KU.
How do you think music will be a part of your life after Music House?
I'll definitely continue performing, writing, and recording music.
What is a moment at Music House that you'll never forget?
The first time we won the Battle Of The Bands at the Music House Fall Fest was pretty unforgettable.
What advice do you have for Music House students who are just starting to learn to play music?
Learn how to pace yourself. If you overwork yourself you'll get burnt out on playing. Practice in short increments of 10 to 15 minutes throughout the day.
What will you miss most about Music House?
The great teachers and all the people I've played with in the bands.
What's the best piece of musical advice you've received?
Don't overplay! Make sure whatever you're playing serves the song.
What do you hope to remember most about your best performance at Music House?
The gig at The Bottleneck that Music House set up for my band!
