Band Feature: Eternal Crash

Meet Eternal Crash, one of our Expansion level bands here at Music House. These guys aren't just musical. They're also pretty funny. So we sat down for a recent interview with the group and got a mix of insight and humor. Enjoy this fun conversation.
So you call yourselves "Eternal Crash". How did you land on that name?

Benton Evans: I was really wanting kinda big, and no one was with me. That name turned kinda small. Aryav Shrestha: Yeah, Benton was looking at words in Latin, and he came up with one. But it was too hard to pronounce. Joseph Acree: So we came up with the phrase, translated to Latin, and then randomly translated it back. Eli Jurgensmeyer: Big crash, on the cymbal! The drums are always eternal. |
What is the best part of being in a band?

Aryav: Playing good songs and communicating on decisions as a band! Joseph: The best part is I get to play the loudest instrument. (editor's note, Jo is the drummer... of course.) |
What are some of your band goals?

Aryav: To become a better guitarist, to expand the band's repertoire. Eli: To become better at playing with other people. Joseph: To play louder than our teacher, Luis's voice. (laughs all around) Raghav Saravaman: To not fail! |
What is your most memorable band experience?

Aryev: My very first concert at Music House. Benton: I remember our second rehearsal very clearly. I started to sing, and I started sucking, but I got better. Eli: Coming up with band names. That's always fun. Joseph: Being the oldest band member. Raghav: The day I learned my band instructor, Luis, is a cyborg. It changed my worldview. (editor's note: Luis is actually flesh and blood. However, he conveys a superhuman level of coolness.) |
If you got to open for any band or artist, current or defunct, who would it be?

Aryav: I'd like to open for the Eagles. Benton: Open for another band? I am the main event. Eli: Sum41. Joseph: Tally Hall. Raghav: Biggy Cheese. |
What advice would you give to students that are just getting started?

Aryav: You don't have to be really good. Benton: It's a lot of pressure and it's tough, but it's worth it. Eli: Try to get a practice schedule going. Joseph: Don't try to add on more to a song unless you know the whole thing. |
What do you guys do that's special – that you think sets you apart from all the Music House bands?

Aryav: We make more jokes! Benton: My teacher owns organic agave honey. (editor's note: ?) Eli: We're not super serious. We can be, but we don't like to be. Raghav: Raghav :) |
How has playing with other people benefited you?

Aryav: It makes me stay more in rhythm. I'm also listening to other instruments more. Eli: it gives me something to look forward to in the week! Raghav: It has improved my mental health and kept it from deteriorating. (laughs) It's better to talk to other people than just staying in. |
